Employment policy

The Financial Supervision Commission employs around 50 people. Temporary staff and specialist technical staff are contracted as and when our business needs determine. As an independent statutory body staff of the Commission are not Civil Servants.

Commission culture

The Commission’s culture is one of professional excellence fostering employee development and encourages them to meet their full potential in order to maximise successes. The atmosphere is exciting and creates an environment in which employees are engaged, challenged and motivated. We are proud of the part we play in sustaining the Isle of Man’s position as an international financial centre.

Training and development

The Commission is committed to ensuring that staff achieve continuous personal development. Learning and development opportunities are provided in many forms such as: structured on-the-job training, professional study, soft skills training, participation on internal training sessions, secondments, mentoring, project work and opportunities to attend relevant conferences and seminars.

The Commission expects its staff to have equivalent knowledge, experience and, as appropriate, professional qualifications in line with the regulated entities it deals with on a day-to-day basis and as such it invests significantly in the area of professional qualifications. The Commission will support staff both financially and in terms of time off for study leave, to attend study programmes and to sit exams, subject to the framework of the Learning and Development strategy.

The Commission empowers its staff to take"ownership" of their learning and development.

Equal Opportunities

It is the Financial Supervision Commission’s policy to promote equal opportunities in the workplace. The Commission seeks to select the most suitable person for the post, subject to the provisions of the Control of Employment legislation. The selection process is undertaken without discrimination and regardless of age, gender, disability, marital status, ethnic background or religious beliefs.

Investors In People

The Commission has achieved the gold award against the Investors in People standard. The standard has helped the Commission improve its performance and communication and deliver its objectives through the management and development of our people.
